Digital Photography for Beginners Course In Suffolk, Essex and East Anglia
Our beginners Digital SLR workshop is a one day intensive course to teach you how to take a great photo with your Digital SLR camera.
It’ll be a relaxed and fun day including a practical insight into how, when and where you can make best use of the manual settings on your digital camera.
Some of the topics we’ll be discussing on the day include:
- Getting to know your Camera (Megapixels, Resolution, and File Formats)
We will discuss you’re camera’s functions and buttons so you can get to know your camera and use it to its full potential. We will also talk about the number of megapixels your camera can capture as megapixels will determine the quality of your photographs. Lastly you will learn the advantages and disadvantages of shooting in JPEG and RAW file formats.
- Exposure (ISO, Aperture and Shutter Speed) and Metering
You will learn about the effects of underexposure and overexposure and how to control this using the Aperture and Shutter speed settings on your digital camera. Aperture refers to the diameter of the camera lens which therefore regulates the amount of light which hits the sensor. Shutter speed is also used to regulate the amount of light hitting the sensor.
- Depth of Field
In this beginners course you will learn about the depth of field of images. Depth of field describes the range of the image that appears sharp enough to be acceptable. You will also understand what affects the depth of field such as aperture, shutter speed, focus and camera type.
- White Balance
The White Balance function on your camera provides you with the option to correct colour flaws which may have arisen due to light bouncing off of a coloured object. As well as learning how to make corrections using White Balance you will also learn how to make images appear different using vibrant colours.
- Camera Modes (Auto Focus and Manual Focus)
You will be taught about camera modes in this course, different modes and the pros and cons of using them.
- Light Metering
You will learn about your digital camera’s inbuilt light meter and how it can select a correct combination of aperture and shutter speed settings to provide the correct exposure level.
This course will help you to learn about the use of histograms and how they allow you to make judgements about the brightness of an image. A histogram is a very useful tool in photography.
- Composition Techniques
In this course, you will be taught basic composition techniques which will make a real noticeable difference to the quality of your work. For example, you will learn about the rule of thirds which will help you to balance your images.
- Lens Choice
This course will teach you about the different lenses available on the market and how they can be used.
- Optimising your camera’s settings
In this beginner’s course you will learn about different camera settings, including how, when and what they are best used for to get the most from your camera and improve your photography skills.
