How to curl your hair
Having curled hair is a very popular look, it adds life to flat hair and makes you feel good about yourself. It is also a key look for vintage styles. There are different options available to achieve your look.
Curling Wands/tongs – Curling wands or tongs are essentially the same thing. The main difference is that tongs usually have a clamp so that you don’t have to hold the hair around the wand, which could result in a very achy arm after you have finished curling all of your hair. To use a tong/wand you just take a piece of hair and wrap it around the wand/tong and hold it there until you can feel the hair heating up, or for about 15 seconds. Do not leave the hair on the heat too long! There are different widths of curling tongs/wand available so you can achieve the look you wish, the smaller the wand the smaller and tighter the curl will be. For nice loose looking curls I would suggest a one inch wand/tong
Hair straighteners – Hair straighteners are a lot quicker to use than wands/tongs as you do not have to leave it in place, the hair heats instantly as long as you have a good quality pair of straighteners. To use straighteners to curl your hair, just take a piece of the hair clamp it in the straighteners and twist up, slide the straighteners down the length of the hair just continuing to wist them slightly in the same way. Do not clamp the hair too tightly or it will not only pull the hair but you wont get a smooth sliding action, and so will not achieve the admired effect. The advantage of hair straighteners is that you know you will always achieve the loose curl and that they wont be too tight.
Heated rollers – Heated rollers are good on a time basis and are often used by make-up artists. We all remember the rollers our grandmothers used to have, and these look very similar. They come in a variety of sizes so that you can achieve the look you want, this is also great for vintage looks. With the heated rollers, it is very simple, you take a section of the hair and roll it up, pin it into place and repeat the process with the rest of the hair. While the rollers are taking effect this will give you the perfect time to do your make-up before you have to take them out again.
Whichever method you use for curling your hair, remember that freshly cleaned hair can be quite stubborn, so it is best to do curling on day old hair (washed the day before) particularly with straighteners. Section off your hair before curling for a cleaner finishing look. The bigger the sections of hair the looser the curl will be.
